Carriage bolts are metal fasteners with a round head, flat tip and fully threaded shank. Optional galvanization and plating enhance carriage bolt properties for use in harsh environments. All our carriage bolts are produced to Unified National Coarse (UNC) standard.
Grade 18.8 bolts are made from a combination of metal alloys, including steel, chromium and nickel. These carriage bolts are plated with stainless steel and designed for maximum corrosion resistance. Grade 18.8 bolts are available in diameters ranging from 1/4" to 1/2" and in lengths up to 4".
Grade 2 carriage bolts are made from carbon steel, available in bare metal or with a protective coating. Typically, galvanized bolts are better suited for outdoor use. Bolts with zinc plating are more attractive and often better suited for indoor applications. Grade 2 bolts are available in lengths up to 12".
Grade 5 carriage bolts are made from quenched and tempered steel. These carriage bolts have a higher tensile strength than Grade 2 and are coated with zinc plating for an attractive bolt that is resistant to corrosion. Grade 5 zinc bolts are available in a range of sizes.
With an appropriate outer coating, carriage bolts are suitable for indoor, outdoor and underwater use. The domed head design offers an attractive finish, and full threading of the bolt adds strength for securing materials.
The underside of a carriage bolt head is shaped to grip materials, preventing twisting while securing the bolt. Carriage bolts are suited for both large and small applications large and small, including:
