Commonly tipped with carbide or diamond teeth, core bits allow for aggressive drilling in concrete or stone and other materials. Extensions are available to increase the depth to which you can cut with the coring bit and are easily attached.

Core Bit Types and Applications

Core bits work by pairing with an arbor that attaches to your drill. Separate pilot bits can connect to the inside of your core bit and run through the entire body to locate your cut area. Like an annular cutter, a core bit cuts just the perimeter of a hole, producing a core that eventually falls out.

Most core bits break down into either wet or dry categories. We offer core bits in a variety of sizes for both applications.

Wet Core Drilling

Wet drilling is often the preferred core drilling method because it creates a cleaner, more durable hole across a broader range of tasks. Wet core drill bits use water to help push the bit through the material's surface. Water drives the drill bit through the material much faster than dry drilling.

Like dry core drilling, wet core drilling produces a hollow center to remove the core from the hole, often leaving behind a much cleaner surface.

Typical applications of wet core drilling include:

  • Concrete drilling.
  • Plumbing and pipe drilling.
  • Brick drilling.

Dry Core Drilling

Without water, dry core drill bits have a higher amount of pressure and stress placed on the blade, which causes the drill speed to decrease significantly. When water is not accessible or cement sludge from wet drilling is not acceptable in the work environment, dry core drilling is the method of choice.

Common applications of dry core drilling are:

  • Light brick drilling.
  • Porous concrete block drilling.
  • Soft block drilling.

Brands of Core Bits We Offer

Our inventory of wet and dry core bits features products from some of the industry's most trusted brands, including:

  • Milwaukee®: Our selection of Milwaukee core bits contains both wet and dry diamond bits that can handle the most challenging masonry drilling jobs you encounter. Milwaukee wet core bits provide some of the fastest drilling speeds in the industry, while the dry bits use larger slot and kerf sizes to facilitate the cooling process.
  • Lackmond: Our selection of Lackmond core bits offers a range of wet and dry bits specializing in electrical installations and applications involving porcelain, ceramic tile, granite and marble.
  • Pearl Abrasive: Pearl Abrasive wet and dry bits use trademark diamond patterning and layering technology to produce some of the highest-performing core bits on the market. Pearl offers an extensive range of products that can handle various tasks, from light tile drilling to wide diameter drilling in dense concrete.
  • Bosch: We furnish an SDS-Max® rotary hammer core bit from Bosch for use as a center punch or pilot pin in the masonry industry.
